Eskom
ModusBPS was appointed as the Strategic Partner and Manager of Business Process Management on the Eskom Back to Basics Programme in February of 2010. Our mandate was to own and manage all the Business Process Management requirements across the group.
The Back to Basics programme was originally conceived to address the disparate state of the financial capability across all the functional divisions within Eskom. The programme sought to Standardise, Simplify and Optimise all processes and SAP toolset usage throughout these Eskom divisions.
The Eskom SAP reimplementation project and the Eskom Back to Basics programme was delivered on time, in budget and according to specification in November /December 2011.
The programme included the Process Analysis, Design and Implementation across the following Business (SAP) domains:
- Finance Management
- Human Resources Management
- Procurement Management
- Fleet Management
- Engineering Design
- Safety, Health Environment
- Sustainability
- Plant Maintenance
- Projects (aligned with Eskom PLCM)
- Generation
- Transmission
- Distribution
- Corporate Services
The key deliverable in the solution was the development of a PCM (Process Control Manual), which was required for each identified process in the afore mentioned business domains. A PCM document typically included the following process elements:
Process Flow Value Chain
- Process Flow – Activity & Tasks
- Risk and Controls (associated with the Sub-Process Value Chains)
- Organisation/Strategic/Process Objectives
- Library Models, including the definition and identification of:
- KPIs
- Organisational Structure – RACI
- Organisational / Process Objectives
- Documents / Standard Reports
- SAP Screens / Transaction
- Policies & Procedures
- Creation Process Maturity Index
- Process Narrative
ModusBPS played a key role in the realisation of the Eskom HPUM (a High Performance Utility Model), which is Eskom’s Business Process Framework used to manage the Process Structure across all Divisions and supporting structures within Eskom.
In conjunction to the development and delivery of the process based solution, ModusBPS also developed the Eskom intranet published HTML process solution – a method enabling any Eskom employee to use an Internet Browser and view any signed off process without needing specific software or license keys. This included links that any process might have to resources such as Polices, Procedures, Training material and other forms of supporting documentation.
